Also known as a Reader or Reading Pipe, this is one of the very earliest pipe shapes and still remains popular.

The story goes that Churchwarden pipes were named after night watchmen, from the time when church doors were never locked. As smoking was not allowed inside church buildings, these pipes were fitted with exceptionally long stems so the pipe could hang out of an open window and the smoke would waft away into the great outdoors.

The overall length of the fishtail mouthpiece ensures a pleasant cool smoke particularly suitable for an evening's relaxation.

The Talamona brand was born in 1970, the fruit of the labours of Cesare Talamona, an artisan based in Oltrona (VA).

With his “Pipatt”, he helped to make the craftsmanship of Lake Varese known all over the world. His “Talamona” brand soon became famous, far and wide, due to his skill and creativity in crafting large pipes.

Once Cesare withdrew from the market at the venerable age of 85 years old, and not wanting to end his work of “high Italian crafts”, he thought well to entrust everything to Paolo Croci, and in 2007 Paolo acquired the brand. In 2010, limited production of the brand resumed, respecting the will and skills of Cesare Talamona.

To this day, his pipes are all handmade from the highest quality briar and always generous in size.

Within Talamona pipes you can always recognise the creativity and the hand of Paolo. Both Cesare and Paolo believe: “every pipe has a soul which is found by those who buy it.”
