The Tupolev Tu-2 (NATO reporting name: Bat) was a premier Soviet twin-engine medium bomber of World War II, often cited as one of the finest aircraft of its class during the conflict. It was built to be a high-speed daylight and dive bomber capable of rivaling single-seat fighters in speed. It was often compared to the German Junkers Ju 88 for its versatility and effectiveness. Approximately 2,200 to 3,000 units were built between 1941 and 1951.
