The Ilyushin Il-4 (NATO reporting name: "Bob") was a twin-engined Soviet long-range bomber and torpedo bomber that served as a backbone of the Soviet Air Force and Naval Aviation during World War II. Developed from the earlier DB-3, it was officially redesignated as the Il-4 in March 1942.
Role: Long-range medium bomber and torpedo bomber.
Crew: 4 (pilot, bombardier/navigator, dorsal gunner, ventral gunner).
Powerplant: Two Tumansky M-88B radial engines, each providing 1,100 hp.
Maximum Speed: Approximately 410 km/h (255 mph).
Range: Up to 3,800 km with maximum internal fuel; roughly 2,600 km with a 1,000 kg bomb load. Payload: Could carry up to 2,600 kg of bombs internally and externally, or specialized torpedoes for naval strikes.
